Amherst Island is one of the best locations in Canada to photograph owls and raptors in the winter. The Island regularly supports large populations of owls including the snowy owl, short-eared owl, great-horned owl, long-eared owl, barred owl.
Special sightings include the northern saw-whet owl, great grey owl,northern hawk owl, and the rare boreal owl. While owls are a big draw for birders and photographers, the island boasts over 350 species of birds including bald eagles, harriers, swans, ducks, rough-legged hawk, and the red-tailed hawk. Other wildlife in the area includes coyotes, deer ,otter ,fisher, and red fox througout the year.

This tripod is excellent on uneven ground and is exceptionally light.
So many birders dont realize that the Owls are in the trees, a spotting scope on a tripod or window mount is so much more effective in finding birds before even taking the cover off of your lens.
Watching the owls at night is incredible, walk through owl woods and see what you are missing
